Through our art we give of ourselves; word by word, image by image. We lay these pieces down like cobblestones that later become the path we walk. Meredith is from everywhere on any given day; but is finding her way back home to New England. She drinks chai tea, parents mindfully, embraces this human existence, and will always be a camera shy momma.

tara r. is a Vermonter. she's heard tell that you must be a seventh generation old-timer of the green mountains to call yourself as such, but she has just lived through her first far northern winter, and feels as though this alone qualifies her for statehood, if not sainthood. her rented ramshackle farmhouse on 44 acres fills her with happiness and a love of place that she once thought could only be found in Proust. she is usually either standing next to the stove stirring a stew, listening to records, reading a book, knitting a simple hat, traipsing through the woods, or taking photographs while her two unschooled boys patiently stand by and wait for her to finish.

Blair Stocker lives in the pacific northwest with her husband Peter and two children. She rediscovered passion to craft and make all kinds of things after her children were born. These days, when all is quiet and the kids are at school, she spends time in her newly redone basement studio, making things for her family, friends, and her home using new and used materials of all kinds (and playing a lot of music). She quilts, knits, crochets, reads, cooks, daydreams, and finds forgotten treasures at flea markets. Everyone in her home sleeps under a handmade quilt.

lisa m. lives on a vegetable farm in virginia with her husband, their 18-month old son, and a motley gaggle of homestead farm critters. they grow food for farmers markets and a large CSA. lisa's feelings about how to move through this world are still deeply informed by the years she spent doing family support work in new york city: by the resilience and dreams of the families she knows there, by the sheer density of human experience, by the grit and energy and beauty of every subway platform and food truck and park bench. a gardening project with families living in a shelter left her wondering if there might be some professional intersection between the work she was doing and growing stuff, so she planned a sabbatical to work on farms. she imagined a return to the city to work in school or community gardening, but her plans changed when she met a certain farmer. in 2008 they bought their own farm, and while she still misses the city somethin' fierce, at times, it's become increasingly impossible to imagine life anywhere else.

San Francisco illustrator and fine artist Lisa Congdon was raised in both upstate New York and Northern California where she grew to love the trees and animals that surrounded her. That love is now expressed most intensely through her paintings and drawings. Nine years later, it is now the most significant part of her life and livelihood. She is currently chronicling all of her collections in her Collection A Day 2010 Project. That project will become a book, published in March 2011. With wool in her hands from the beginning, it's no surprise she's a fiber artist, but has only recently felt comfortable calling herself that. Always wishing she had become an archaeologist, she is now content searching for vintage housewares and more. She loves nothing more than being a mother. She likes chocolate, all four seasons, sewing, standing in the wind, laughing with her two daughters until their sides hurt, and their tiny house in a tiny harbor on the coast of Maine, which she will live in full-time one day. Very spoiled sheep, several chickens, four cats, and a dog run the small Connecticut farm she shares with her husband and girls.

claire never really knows what to say about herself, but she loves lists, so here goes
:: she was born & raised in sunny brisbane, australia, and lives, for the moment, in vancouver, bc while her beau studies electro-acoustic music composition and other things she will never really understand but is suitably awed by.
:: she would very much like to one day live in australia again. probably melbourne.
:: she loves to sew, but gets more excited by film and cameras.
:: thinks it’s wonderful that her friends like to stop by with gifts of homemade jam & chutney’s or banana bread.
:: is right now listening to pet sounds and will tell you, at this moment, it is the greatest album ever made.

hannah is....well, the truth is hannah isn't really sure what she is. she knows some basic facts to be true, for instance she is the mother of three children who stupefy her (or drive her crazy) every day. she is married to an amazing man who works so very hard to accomplish big dreams. apart from that, hannah lives in a blue house with a yellow door in kansas city. by day, hannah works as an archaeologist, and by night she photographs anything and everything. someday hannah would like to earn a living more creatively, but until then hannah is just hannah. she probably always will be, come to think of it.

Katurah lives in Blantyre, Malawi with a very tall husband whom she loves very much, and three children, whom she also loves very much. These days, Katurah tends to be the consummate mother/wife/homemaker, with her fingers in many pots (of paint or glue or split pea soup). Katurah blogs to remind herself of life's daily beauty and joy. She is always surprised and somewhat giddy when people come visit her little corner of the internet, and she is exceptionally grateful for the community it has provided in times and places where it is so very easy to feel alone. Katurah is also very jealous of anyone who knows how to knit their own socks.

blair lives in the pacific northwest with her husband peter and her two kids, emma and ian. she and peter run their consulting company from their home, so any business calls could easily be interrupted with dryers beeping, cats meowing, or children asking for help finding their missing lego pieces. life never fully stops (or even slows down) in this place we call home. we embrace the many imperfections. when there is time, after those little legos are found and everyone is happy, blair sews, knits, cooks, and "makes things" in her tiny little studio, that she loves to escape to.
